A tallish blond youth entered a dusty old store, swinging his little cousin off of his shoulders so they could get through the doorway. Kellan was smiling broadly, and a little too exuberantly, while Kerra was hiding behind her overly long bangs. He was dressed simply in a black tee and slacks; although clothing was of good quality it was rather rumpled. She was wearing a flowing white blouse with yellow flowers, black shorts, and black sandals, and there was a yellow ribbon tying her brown hair neatly back. The only thing they shared was their brown eyes. They were opposites, in personalities as well as appearance, but they got along better together than apart.
There were so many forgotten things, some that he didn't know the use of. He was rather startled to find such an abandoned-seeming store, and intrigued. The few times that he'd been out shopping with his parents, the merchandise in the stores were all extremely new. Looking through this one was almost as interesting as going through the unused halls of the family home, aware that he was the only person to set foot there in over a decade...
He brushed dust off of a carved bird-creature, patting little Kerra's head comfortingly in case she was upset by the strange thing. The eyes glitered red, and the carved feathers were incredibly realistic. She sniffled, but calmed. Only a little, though. The thing seemed to be watching them. The girl's big eyes stared around the dark store, clutching Kellan's hand.
The store was just so... creepy. Why does Kel always have to find such strange places? she thought nervously as he walked away from her. She followed close behind, not looking at the shelves looming over them.
Kellan paused at a shelf of -what else?- books. Books that he hadn't read before, and even more interesting, that he had never heard of. Not even the authors. Those he must have. He picked one up, examining it, as an elderly man walked over to greet them.
The little girl 'eeped' quietly, and dug her sharp little child-nails into Kel's hand. He was scary... he didn't even look alive. His eyes reminded her of the bird's eyes although they were glittering black rather than red.
The teen glanced down at her, and then in the direction that she was staring. An old man, the store owner. Kel was completely unaffected by the rather sinister air the fellow had. "Oh. Hello there. I'm Kellan Demar... how much are these books, they're unmarked and I haven't read them before...?" He blinked suddenly, seeing something rather shiny across the store and refocused on the old man with quite a bit of effort as his questions were answered by a dry, rasping voice. "Oh. I'll take them.. and what's that?!" He scampered across the store, accidentally dragging Kerra - still clinging to his hand - with him. The shop keeper watched them with thinly disguised amusement.
((YAY! My laptop is working. I can RP again. Joy is gushing from my ears... o.o um... right. Happy.))
